Heath said it was the hardest charcter he had to do to be a man Pychopahic man with no though, emotion and zero empathy I think thats how he put it I cant find the quote.

I thought he did a great job as joker the most gutting thing about it was that he cant do any more

I also read he stayed in a hotel room for a month reading his lines  driving himself mad to get into character I dont know if thats true or a rumour fetched up after his death

    sorry

i will try remember that for next time i have really long rant on soemthing

see i dotn really see what u see cos all i no of batman is the films, cartoons and the tv series, so i dont really get what the jokers meant to be, but i spose for some people, all they no is nicholson and the others, and heath plays it completely diff which is way they may not get it, but i didnt see a problem with heaths performance or the way the joker was even though thats all i knew, i just saw it as a new take on the character, which i really liked, and was palyed really well. if id read the comics i mite have more of an idea what the jokers meant to be like soem people on here obviously have, so im not going to argue whos right and wrong on the correct joker, cos i just dont no enought to be able to do so. i just enjoyed them both.

Jack Nicholson's joker was nothing like the comics.  Him falling into a tub of acid isn't in the comics (how he became the joker is unknown, like in The Dark Knight).  His name 'Jack Napier' isn't the joker's name in the comics (his name is unknown, like in The Dark Knight).  He didn't kill Bruce Wayne's parents in the comics (It was a random thug, like in Batman Begins).  In fact hardly anything about The Joker Jack Nicholson plays is the same as the comics.

Heath played a guy who is just insane and wants to create anarchy?  Your point is?  That IS the joker.  He's not out for revenge, he wasn't dumped into a tub of acid by batman or the mob or anything like that (That's Two-Face)  he's just insane and he's not looking for anything in particular except to create mayhem, that's why batman can't figure him out.

Don't get me wrong, I quite enjoy the character Nicholson plays in Batman.  But it's not the Joker, not how he's supposed to be.  You watch Batman and you see Jack Nicholson running around, dancing with face paint on.  Watch The Dark Knight and you see The Joker, not Heath Ledger.

Also, there was a big buzz about Ledgers performance, waaaaay before he died.

Actually he did fall into a tub of acid from what I read but I was only making a brief point of it considering now people claim that Heaths performance was better because the writers decided to stay with the personality traits and origin of the character. I must have missed that buzz. Anyway I pretty much left this debate to opinion.

    IMO Jack > Heath

In the original comics, when they came out with an origin of The Joker, he did fall into chemicals - well, dove into them - when he was known as The Red Hood.

They go along with a similar premise in the Killing Joke storyline too.

But you are pretty much right on the rest

    This film was quality.

Heath Ledger is quality, I have always thought he has been since my obsession with him began after first watchin 10 things I hate about you in 1999.

Since then I have watch most of the films he's been in, the patriot, a knights tale, Ned Kelly, The order, The brother grim, Brokeback mountain, Cassanova, Candy and finally The Dark Knight.

I've always thought his ability as a actor was amazing. He well deserves some sort of award and always has imo.

I also this his joker is better than Nicholsons. Maybe because I don't really like Nicholsons acting (except for in one flew over the cuckoos nest.)

If you have a opinion that an actress/actors performance was good surely you have to justify why you hold the opinion?

Watched it last night at the imax

Deffo lived up to all the hype

Only problem I had was with Maggie Gyllenhall, she was awful and >spoiler> it made it hard to have any sympathy when she died

She wasnt that bad( she was much better than Holmes in the first)but because every1 else was on top form it made her look a bit crapper than she was.

    Bale,Ledger and Eckhart were brill
