I'm not going to go into it too much right now, I'd like to see other opinions first. However, do you ever wonder why we support and plough money into the game given the obscene amounts of cash these guys are getting?

Was it better before the cash explosion?

Perhaps some of the top players in world football (Messi, C.Ronaldo etc) deserve big wages, but there are too many average joes on incredible wages i.e. Geremi at Newcastle - £72,000 a week, is he fuck worth that.

Michael Owen is on like £100,000 a week and he doesn't contribute much either.

I could sit here and name names of overpaid players all night. Too much money in the game nowadays.

That's the thing though isn't it. £72,000 a week is standard for merely a decent player. Its all about levels and, relatively speaking, £72,000 a week isn't a lot in football. However, it sure as fuck is a lot to you and I.

Yeah. I've always said that there should be a salary cap of some sort. But they'd probably find a way around it with bonuses and shit.

Yeah, bonuses and merchandise. Somebody like Beckham, even if he was making a maximum salary with a ceiling in place, would still be making a fucking bomb from his brand name. I realise he is an exceptional case, but the majority of players would be able to get round a cap with licensing rights etc. I've been thinking about this for a while now, and it is starting to really bother me. I'm not a Communist or anything but the gross amounts of money in the game we love is very unsettling.

When its put into perspective next to how much nurses and firefighters etc earn its pretty sickening. I could have the best life ever on 5,000 a week, n i'd still have far too much money.

And some of these cunts earn 30 times that. It really is incredible, You wonder where you would even start spending/saving that money. Then there is their worth from their assets such as houses and cars. They could comfortably live off a month's wages for the rest of their life.

Exactly. I actaully get annoyed the more i think about it. No wonder players put club before country. I'm actually of the oppinion that you shouldnt get paid to play for your country it shoud be an honour to do so. Any player who disagree's can fuck off i reckon a lot of players would do it for free.

Agreed. I realise the money they make playing for their national side is a fucking drop in the ocean compared to their club wages but that's still not the point- it's the principle. If you don't see the honour in playing for your country, you should just fuck off. I don't care if you're Maradona, Pele and Zidane all rolled into one, get to fuck.

That's why I have a lot of respect for Fernando Redondo. He refused to be paid whilst he was injured at AC Milan, sure he was making great money prior to that. However, he knew he didn't need all that cash and did the right thing. Unfortunately he's a rarity in this day and age of footballing lust, greed, power, fame, and fortune.

Shallow fucks, I'm sure a large proportion of them don't even care about the game, or the people who pay their wages - the fans. Without whom there would be no fucking demand whatsoever.

So in retrospect maybe it's our fault for not abandoning the game in the fucking first place.

They help to earn their respective clubs millions, so in that respect they're not overpaid. In the bigger picture though, they are.

You make a good point, but I want to make it clear to everybody who reads this thread that I am talking in relation to society as a whole - i.e the "bigger picture", as you put it.

They're all just pawns on a billionaires chess game/hobby..

Like everything else the bubble will burst and football will be in crisis.
