That's the thing though isn't it. £72,000 a week is standard for merely a decent player. Its all about levels and,relatively speaking, £72,000 a week isn't a lot in football. However, it sure as fuck is a lot to you and I.

Yeah, bonuses and merchandise. Somebody like Beckham, even if he was making a maximum salary with a ceiling in place, would still be making a fucking bomb from his brand name. And some of these cunts earn 30 times that. It really is incredible, You wonder where you would even start spending/saving that money. Then there is their worth from their assets such as houses and cars. They could comfortably live off a month's wages for the rest of their life.

Agreed. I realise the money they make playing for their national side is a fucking drop in the ocean compared to their club wages but that's still not the point- it's the principle. If you don't see the honour in playing for your country, you should just fuck off. I don't care if you're Maradona, Pele and Zidane all rolled into one, get to fuck.

That's why I have a lot of respect for Fernando Redondo. He refused to be paid whilst he was injured at AC Milan, sure he was making great money prior to that. However, he knew he didn't need all that cash and did the right thing. Unfortunately he's a rarity in this day and age of footballing lust, greed, power, fame, and fortune.

Shallow fucks, I'm sure a large proportion of them don't even care about the game, or the people who pay their wages - the fans. Without whom there would be no fucking demand whatsoever.

So in retrospect maybe it's our fault for not abandoning the game in the fucking first place.
