Right, we have picked up an 02 Berlingo HDI at auction, theres a nasty problem selecting 3rd gear so we thought we would just find a salvage gearbox and drop that straight in, we popped down to our local salvage shop to see what they had in, the guy looked at the van and said there could be one of three gearboxes in there, and would not be able to say which box is in there without dropping it? (I really cant see that tbh).

Now I really dont want to take it to a garage (especially the main Stealership), and I dont want to drop the box, only to find out I cant source another box quickly.

Anyone have any ideas what box is in there, or how I would find out using the net or something??

    Cheers

Couldn't you phone Citroen and give them the cars chassis number and they can find out the part number for the box they fitted to that specific car. I thought most shit was stamped these days for just such a purpose.

Did you check the selector cable linkages before looking at the gearbox (I assume it's cable since few gearboxes seem to use rods these  days) It may be that the tolerances aren't quite correct. Check these first before even thinking about new parts etc...

Cheers for the responses, one of the lads working for us seems to think its something with the selectors and another recons the box needs replacing I dont see how there could be 3 types of boxes fitted in I really cant, 2002 Citroen Berlingo HDI, surely every Berlingo HDI made in that year shares the same box as the face lift didnt come in till 53?

Berlingo owners club, I have heard it all now lol, the internet- uniting all kinds

Look up Pengam Partmart. Pretty good and they know whats what, and should be able to help. And isnt it a hydraulic clutch?
Washing a car, is very much like making love to a beautiful woman. You've got to caress the bodywork. Breathe softly and gently. And give every inch of it your loving attention. And make sure you've got a nice wet sponge
