I've only been playing a few months, I already know a few songs.  Startin' off easy but I hate the way I just give up at it sometimes.

sounds silly but its a good way to learn I thought it was silly when I first heard it but it works and its true

If your stuck on a song, riff, whatever it is give up for a week or so and try it again and it comes to you easier (if you really tried to get it in the first place)

    what can you play?

Yeah I been doing that and I'm gradually getting there.

Erm, not a lot as I haven't been playing long at all.  No Woman, No Cry, Waiting In Vain, Buffalo Soldier, Everybody Hurts, Linger & Killing Me Softly.

Like I said, easy ones just to start me off.  I say I can play them, I can but I need to get better still.  Practise makes perfect I guess.

Acoustic at the mo but I wanna move on to Electric and buy myself a decent guitar but thought theres no point getting one yet till I get a bit better.  I can always practise on my dads and bros in the meantime.

I've only being doing it for a few months now, I freakin' love it XD

I used www.justinguitar.com/ to teach myself all the basics, and now I've done all of those so I'm doing the more advanced things (pinch harmonics for example, although I've mastered the actual picking technique I find it difficult to use it in stuff smoothly) now.

Also learning all of the scales from www.chordbook.com/guitarscales.php , that site is awesome, has every scale (and their variations) and every chord imaginable on it.

Now it's just a case of speeding up my play and learning cool songs

Justin taught me when I was at the Guitar Institute.

Metalliwhore have you heard of the CAGED method for learning chords and scales? It's a really good method for visualising the fretboard!

I attempted to get my head around it but it just confused me terribly, I've taken the approach of basically learning where every note on the fretboard is by memorising them and practising.

I don't think JustinGuitar teaches it very well... might have to do some more research on it though XD

I had a look at Justins version and I couldn't get my head around it either!

Basically the CAGED system gives you 5 ways of playing the same chord(or scale) on the neck. You probably know 2 or 3 shapes already from learning tunes. It just gives you a few more and shows you how they link up on the neck.

Here's a really good vid on it. Let me know if you need any help!

Thanks for the vid still utter confused though

I could be very wrong here... but is it just making chords higher up the fretboard? Like putting a kapo on the guitar but using your first finger to hold the strings down instead?

    I dunno...

I've been learning a few Gojira songs recently as I love how they change their time patterns up a lot and although the songs sound complex, they're relatively easy (Or the ones i've learnt have been)

This is the Origin song I'm trying to learn, it's not that hard, the endurance and alt-picking is there, but the sweeps are tricky!!!
