- When you consider that this planet is one in billions, it is statistically impossible for there not to be life on other planets.

p<0.05 ?
p<0.01 ?
Like what a lot of people have already said, i think there's a high chance there is life on other planets. Just life that has adapted to those sorts of living conditions, like we have on earth. Maybe not in our galaxy, but probably in a different one
This stuff realllly interests me
i think anything to do with life on other planets/how the world was created/human life is fascinatingLast edited by Schnee, Wed 20th Aug 2008, 7:33 pm.

It bugs me when people say there can't be life on other planets because there's no oxygen/too little heat etc
just because these factors are needed for humans to survive, doesn't mean these factors billions of miles away are needed for 'Moomins' to survive (silly name i just thought of for the possible life somewhere else
)There could be galaxies that are kinda parallel to the milky way, with the same planets in
one of which has similar properties to EarthLast edited by Schnee, Wed 20th Aug 2008, 7:49 pm.
- I'm a believer that there is life out there somewhere and also that alot of life in the universe has been made extinct in the past by the dangerous things the universe does, stuff like black holes and gammer ray bursts, maybe life forms were obliterated when there stars went supernova. The Universe is a beautiful thing

- Was having a play with the Drake equation, but sadly too many variables and lack of evidence to provide any kind of meaningul answer.

- There has to be life on other planets. How massive is the universe, im sure we're not the only ones here.
One time, i drank two pints of Gasoline and swallowed a whole box of birth control pills.
For a few hours i actually thought i was Patrick Swayze. Another thing has to be taken into consideration:
There may be, or may have been life elsewhere in another galaxy that's thousands of light-years away. So it would take even the speed of light thousands of years to reach us, or vice-versa. By this time, any lifeform that has sent out signals in forms of radio waves (which are a lot slower that the speed of light and would take considerably longer to reach us) may have become extinct, just like life on Earth has done many of times thoughout history.
I'm not sure if I've explained that very well, so I'll try and use an example, lol:
Say there was intelligent life in a galaxy say for example 2 million light-years from Earth and this lifeform had sent out signals via radio waves or whatever like us humans have done. These radio waves would not be travelling anywhere near the speed of light, which would take 2 million years to reach us alone; they would take a lot longer. During this time, that entire lifeform could have been wiped out, or should it still exist then it would possibly be thousands of years (possibly millions if it's in a galaxy millions of light-years away) ahead of us in terms of technological advances.
I do think that there has been life at some time or another in the Universe. Whether it is still in existence who knows... we will probably never know due to the vast size of the Universe.
EchoHate it when people say that other planets can't support life because gravity isn't right, heat temperature etc.... Eco systems and life adapts to what the world provides for it. Look at how life lives in the roughest places on our world like deserts, ice land etc...
We still don't know what the ingredients are to make life on other planets that becomes sentient.
