I think its down to individual strength of character

I'd like to think that I could distance myself from them but when you're so reliant on one person to ensure your own survival, who knows?

That is a bad idea, you need to try and find a common link between your taker and humanise yourself in their eyes.

I'd shoot myself before I was taken, we get training on what to expect and what we can reveal but I know for a fact my head would be lopped off on television.

    name, rank, number and dob?

I'd probs try to get friendly with them tbh so they'd find it harder to kill me if they get to like me, like you said, so they view me as a human rather than a target.
