LOL what's the strong argument for global warming not happening? The evidence for global warming is sky high. I doubt american media bothers to report it. Luckily barack obama has just appointed two of the most respected scientists in the global warming debate as his chief advisors for science although congress will no doubt behave like slack jawed hillbillys and do its best to burry to keep burrying its head in the sand. The saddest thing is if not enough is done about global warming it will be people like you who suffer, all the big business cats will have enough money to live comfortably untill they die. There's also a lot evidence pointing toward battyboyism being genetic. Gay people tend to have certain chromosomes and there's also evidence that these changes happen in womb. You get gay animals who never mate with the opposite sex, and since christianity has no respect for animal's cognitive ability then this must be instinctive ie genetic? I have a crap memory so I can't really recall all the scientific jargon but I think your cultural upbringing plays a huge part in your thinking that sceptics have strong arguments against global warming and homosexuality, in the end science is nothing but a working hypothesis so any uncertainty however small will probably be enough for you not to trust it.
I come from an embarrassingly christian family so I'm not completely unfamiliar with religion and have probably thought more indepth about it than most people. I don't really trust anything the church says as there's loads of evidence that they've meddled with the bible and change things to fit their own thinking and prejuidices. They're just people at the end of the day and have no right to claim that you can only know God through them. The bible doesn't say that. At the end of the day gay people aren't just one dimensional. They have a whole host of other things to them. It looks to me that the pope is more homophobic rather than objective on the issue. Anyway I fully expect the catholic church to accept homosexuality as completely natural in the future just like their acceptance of evolution... oh that's another thing american christians don't believe in
Merry Christmas anyway Amanda, hope you're having a good day
You've just proved my point on more levels than you even realize. I never gave my opinion on global warming OR homosexuality being genetic or not. I never once stated my personal feelings about it, yet when I bring up how both topics are still being disputed on a national level.. you go off into a paragraph rant about it because you feel so strongly one way. Isn't that basically what I said to begin with? If there was evidence completely disproving one side of the argument, we wouldn't have any need for these types of debates in our world. It'd be a known fact. But clearly, there's enough conflicting evidence that we're still arguing about it. That was really my only point.
I'm not saying that you know nothing about the Bible or religion - just that I'm not going there with you.
I don't appreciate you taking my comment - which I purposely put no personal opinion in it - and turned it around as an argument against me.

Ok interesting how all society's are trying to create tolerance to homosexuality as its the persons choice or natural sexual orientation and has nothing to do with anyone else, especially an idiot like the pope that uses the bible as a moral compass, thats flawed itself.
People should hit back at the pope to tell him not to encourage or spout about issues that do not affect his life until he hears a priest molesting a choir boy.
To be a pope requires no intelligence or tolerance he can keep saying this shit and get away with it and use the bible as his wall of protection. What if a politican said it? He would be booted out of office.

Doubtful. No matter how crazy the Pope's words may be, there's too many people in this world who agree with him and would back him if they tried to throw him out. Same with many politicians. Until the Pope's backing falls - the Pope won't fall.

He would be booted out of office or simply discredited where they career becomes a stand still.
Its a shame I won't see religion disappear in my life time.

We just had a vice presidential candidate who thought that you could expel homosexuality out of people through prayer and you think a politician would be shafted for saying what the Pope did? Maybe in England.. not in America.
Religion has been around for centuries. I don't see it dying out anytime soon. But I could be wrong.

We get heat from the sun via thermal radiation and we get rid of it in the same way. However, the greenhouses gasses that we pump in to the atmosphere contain molecules which trap this heat in the atmosphere and re-radiate it back to earth, warming our surface. As the surface gets warmer it has to repel heat at the rate at which it is coming in, which it obviously can't because of the gasses we put in our atmosphere.
Then guess what happens! The sea gets warmer, melting the ice caps, raising the sea level. Then there's the little thing about ruining the heat distribution around the world. When the ice caps melt, the fresh water dilutes the salt water needed to keep the ocean currents going, and if that happens the salt loses it's power and the current stops, which, in turn, stops the heat from going around, probably resulting in an ice age.
I'd just like to point out that there is no debate about whether it is real or not, because it's damn real, even at the natural level. Water vapor is actually a more prominent cause of global warming than most we see today, but you see, if that natural warming didn't exist, the earth would be completely uninhabitable, as it keeps our temperature stable. However, adding to this makes it TOO hot, which is exactly what we are doing by pumping methane and c02 in to the atmosphere. We are modifying something which is not supposed to be modified.
There are natural, neccessary global warmings, and there are mad-made global warming. Stop being ignorant and realize which is which.

To my knowledge every scientist agrees that global warming is a fact because it would have happened anyway, we just helped speed it up. Its politics and the press that go against it.

You cannot tell someone to keep there opinion to themselves. If someone has an opinion they have every right to express it. What has religion done to the world except result in the slaughterings of millions of people since religion first arose. Even god himself ordered people killed just because the didn't believe in him. I agree religion has helped shaped man into what we are today, but is that really a good thing when you look at the world? Most people are brought up to believe in religion as opposed to being given a choice, that in itself is wrong.

well you cant rely. You telling someone to keep there opinions to themselves doesn't mean they are going to do it. So you couldn't do as you wished because no one listened to you and did as you say.

Global warming is not a scientific fact no matter how many times you say it is, scientists are still debating wether or not it is. The fact is the climate on this planet has been constantly changing without any human interference and it is sheer human arrogance to assume we are creating something that has always occured anyway.
Living green is for homosexuals.
