    24 The Edge of U2
95 Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine

I agree entirely, but this list is just stupid, no matter how you approach the 'best' criteria.

Best guitarists would be on creative and technical abilty.

But its the same way that I wouldnt have Steve Vai at the top of a best songwriters list. As good a guitarist as he is I personally dont think hes as good a songwriter as, well Cobain for arguments sake

Ha, see, I think he's a great songwriter. They'll be no agreement here. That said catchy and hummable tends to be more popular with the majority, which is why someone like Holdsworth only gets <3 from guitar and fusion enthusiast despite being an absolute monster.

Fair enough. Im not majorly into the guitar virtuoso kind of artists anyway. Only Satch really, as he tends to write his guitar parts as if they are vocal parts. Personally, I'd rather be a known as a great songwriter than a great guitarist.

Huge Satch fan too! Satch is a lot more straight up and accessible (although I haven't really enjoyed his last 3 albums, Crystal Planet ftw etc), where as Vai can be quiet abstract and complicated, which is probably why I like him more. Different strokes eh.
