Yeah, if they purposefully did anything to you it would effectively provoke war between Britain and Russia.

Right, due to a heavy police presence the demonstrations never really amounted to anything because of a fear of having the life beaten out of you by the police (it happens quite regularly over here)

To stop any further moronic comments such as "Georgia is a muslim country" or "Georgians started a war with Russia" I shall spend a few minutes explaining the whole situation.

In 1921 Russia captured Georgia and it became a part of the Soviet Union. Sochi and its surrounding areas were handed over to Russia permenantly by Stalin.

Then some time after, during the 1991/92 period Georgia had its war of independance. Although it won its freedom, it was very badly beaten and weakened. Shevardnadze became the president. However the Russians didnt want to completely let go of Georgia. It took North Ossetia and pretty much made Georgia sign an agreement which gave Abkhazia and South Ossetia autonomy. Russia appointed its own men there, gave the citizens there Russian passports and taught lessons in Russian.

The Abkhazs and Ossets are of a mixed dissent, but mostly persian, they were given land and labour some 250 or so years ago when they fled parts of Persia and Russia. It was Georgian land they were given.

Anyway, Shevardnadze turned out to be an extremely greedy and corrupt president who didnt give a fuck about Georgias citizens and he was overthrown in the Rose Revolution in 2003.

The talks between Russia and Georgia between the seperatist regons had lead to nowhere for the past 15/16 years and continiued to be occupied by Russian fores.

The situation started escaleting when Russia shot down 4 Georgian drones over Ossetia and Abkhazia region (officialy Georgian territory) three or so months ago. There had been small skirmishes going on for over a month between Osset and Georgian border, which eventually exploded on the 6th of August.

Russia sent in its 58th army (created especially for Caucases) and a full blown war broke out.

Now, what does this whole thing mean politically? Well, ever since the break up of the Soviet Union, NATO has been inching closer and closer to Russia. Russia doesnt like that. Saakashvilli and Ushenko are very pro western and Russia cant take that. If you cast your mind back to the Orange Revolution, Russia attempted to poisen Ushenko.

Ossetia was just an excuse for Russia to try to overthrow Saakashvilli and instead appoint Georgadze (a Pro-Russian leader of the opposition party in Georgia). Somebody in Russia, said on the Radio, cant rememer his name, that Georgia is going to be the second Chechnya.

To those of you who dont know the situation of Chechnya, well basically the Russians didnt leave a single tree standing there, they killed countless amount of children and women and the elederly, and now the 'President' of Chechnya, surprise surprise, is a close buddy of Putin.

With the situation in Middle East, Iraq and Afghanistan, Russia was hoping the Europe and America would turn a blind eye on Georia, just like they didi with Chechnya, but it wasnt so. Leaders all across the world have condemmed Russia (except Cuba and Belarus of course) and now Russia is becoming very isolated.

McCain has said that such an aggresve country doesnt belong in the G8 and Ive read articles about some serious talks of economic sanctions and blockades against Russia. Milliband not shaking Medvedevs outstreched hand was just a LOLOCAUST and even China and Iran said that Russia crossed the line.

Obviously they dont show any of that over here, the amount of lies, hypocracy, double standards, and propaganda is surreal.

And actually, Ive just seem some footage of protestors in Cuba speaking out against its leaders decesoin to support Russia, which is funny because, what is officially a dictatorship people are allowed to speak out, but what is officially a democracy, people cant. Ive lost the count of the amount of journalists killed that have spoken out against Putin.

Russia will now be isolated and, although it was never liked much before, it is now hated by the world after showing its true colours.

Russia has been making themselves out as the victims, saying that the whole world is against them and they are in the right. Also, I have been struggling to fing any elements that would make this country a democracy and I must say, Ive come to a conclusion that there is no such thing in this country. And its people know it. The Kremlin controls everything. People here are extremely opressed. But they deserve it.

The overall situation here is almost as bad as two years ago, several Georgian restourants have closed and the police presence on streets increased dramatically.

The police here can stop you in the street and ask you for your passport, this is a normal thing and no one leaves home without a passport. When in public, i try to keep the Georgian talk to a minimum to avooid trouble. Oh and God forbid the police stop you and you dont have any documents.

I'll stop rambling for now, as my time is runninng out, i hope this was helpful and I apologise for all the typos.

oh almost forgot, since Russia has signed the agreement to withdraw its troops, they have m\bombed outer regions of Tbilisi, killed and beat up women and children in villages, raped them and took all thei possesions, even down to stuff like washing up powder. They are still in Gori, Poti, Zugdidi and several other small towns and villages, although they deny this, eveb though there is footage of them.

Also they have killed several foreign journalists and only Russian reporters are allowed into Abkhazia ans Ossetia, hmm I wonder why?!?!

btw Ive made contact with my family and they are unharmed.

Im saying the world isnt against Russia cause of this current situation.

I would blame your leader for the current conflict and he was clearly mistaken in believing he could do what he likes and expect American backing.

Turkey is an American puppet so that doesnt suprise me lol

dont let your anger cloud your judgement lad.

Russia has shot itself in the foot big time, Poland has been unsure on the missile defence system for a long time, and now they have agreed to it after Russia's little invasion on the condition that their air defence is upgraded. Nice one Russia.

If Russia were a country that truly cared about diplomatic ties it would have totally and utterly shot itself in the foot. Invading Georgia would be diplomatically and politically disastrous with little material gain for them in terms of land or resources - Nato will eventually surround Russia whether they like it or not and holding onto Georgia will not stop this onslaught.

I get the feeling thought that Russia really doesn't give a toss what the rest of the world thinks. Putin is a very clever man and if he really wanted Russia to look good, come on he would not have entered this ridiculous war. It seems to me that Russia is retreating into its shell and has adopted a siege mentality, rendering any threats of diplomatic and political isolation useless, and really meaning 1-0 to Russia.

Russia collapsed during the last arms race, I have little doubt they would collapse again if they were to try and kick start a new cold war.

I doubt this new 'cold war' or 'arms race' or whateve will amount to much. I think its just Russia and the US blowing off a bit of smoke and frustration in difficult times in the world with the facade of the war on terror, and the economy, and Russia's agitation with the rise of the Oligarchs among other things.

Don't forget though that the main reason Russia collapsed last time was because of the fall of Communism - the ideological factor is removed this time - both Russia and the US and the West embrace, to varying degrees, free market capitalism and thus any arms race will be based on pure pride i guess. I haven't decided whether this is more dangerous or not. I guess i can't see either country starting a nuclear war (and ultimately destroying the earth) over pride or whatever. hmm.
