Well lets see after seeing lots of younger people driving past me as I walk upon thy streets, I finally got my ass in gear (pun intended) and work towards driving. Got my Theory test coming up and intensive course booked too, but Im looking for cars Im aware that being 22 and first time car owner insurance wise I shouldnt be looking at anything above 1.2 but thats about it.
So whats your views on a nice, low cost, easy to run, car btw no Rover suggestions, think you know why 
I got Vauxhall Corsa; Pegeot 106/206/306 or a Ford Fiesta in mind not sure what year though as long as its post date when they started making the bumpers part of the cars colour scheme if that makes sense and Im working on a budget of £1000 but would rather spend £500 ish lol
HELP ME :D!

- Posted: Sun 5th Oct 2008, 9:40 pm If you're unconcerned about looks and cost is the main factor, couple of hundred quid will get you a banger in the papers with a years tax and MOT on it. Then scrap it when both run out if it fails to pass another MOT. Plus, if you prang it, you'll not give a rats ass. So long as it goes from A -> B and back again, no problem.

I bought an R reg 1.4 clio for my first car, it's not too expensive to run and i managed to get insurance on my provisional license for £308 per year with "e-car"

can by ones a few hundred quid, plus being a vw polo, parts are cheap and plenty, even if its 100,000 miles it will still probably run great.
better than a fiesta any day.
who cares about colour coded bumpers when uv got a vw

i paid £295 for my citroen ax with 6 months tax and 8 months mot.
My friend got a corsa m reg for 220 quid from an auction.
Car auctions are wicked just take someone with you who knows what to look for so you do't end up with a pile of crap that won't start

dont worry youre new so its expected.i gave you advice which was to post it in the correct forum where people go to talk about all things automotive. this way you will get more and better advice which has been shown already by ashz and jockbitch. i didnt post it to belittle you, which you obviously thought i did, i posted it as genuine advice.

Their not all dogs that go through auctions. Take someone with you that knows what to look for,and go to a few before you decide to buy.
Buying from the local rag is a good idea, but then you dont really know what you could be getting same as a auction. All depends what you want i guess..

dont get a stunning car as your 1st. you will reck it, lol. i crashed mine, not to mention being unexperienced i bumped it in a few places.. i had an x reg punto though, it was kinda a shed. i'd say go for a decent looking car, but nothing to fancy..
things to focus on really is running it. make sure its a low litre engine, which wil save you on petrol, insurance and tax. i remember i was spending 20 pound a week on my punto. at the time i was fuking tamping, but looking back i wish i was spending that now. 50 pound a week i put in my carr </3.
this car is meant to be one of the cheapest cars to run. 1 litre engine, something like 70 miles to the gallon, and only 75 to tax it for the year. i dont know how much they are going for though.. if you dont have alot to spend i suggest a 1.0 / 1.2 litre corsa!!

Cheap as chips and looks good which is a bonus
