Why do you think this happens? Do you think this is something that would possibly happen to you under the circumstances?

It's when you become sympathetic/empathetic/can relate towards someone who is keeping you hostage through means of violence.

It can be seen as a sort of defense mechanism to protect yourself from harm.

A prime example is a wife staying with a husband that beats her.

He could have said that to make it simplier but I think he was trying to be clever

Never understood it myself, I can understand acting buddy buddy with them whilst they have you to keep on their good side, but given half a chance I'd still slit their throat.

    this ^^^^^^^^ lol

Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order and everything becomes chaos. I'm an agent of chaos. Oh and you know the thing about chaos? It's fair.

It happens in theory due to looking to a higher power adult for survival.

If you are with your husband/wife for years and then they start beating you, I can see how this theory comes into play, because people do have the mentality of 'what am I going to do if I leave?'

Well I used wiki but I wanted it dumbed down

I understand how it can happen to some people, obviously the victim may feel that they more affection they show, the safer they'll be. They know that if they lash out or something then they're just going to be worse off. In a hostage situation like robbing a bank you're trusting the person to not kill you, and probably feel some sort of respect for them not actually killing you, which is why they defend them. I'm making stuff up now. Shut up Melissa.
Also, I seriously doubt I'd be the same if I was being beaten. I've been in a hostage situation before and I just hated him more after it, so obv I didn't have this stockholm thingy then.

It's ok bbz, I was only joking.

Agreed with what you are saying though. If I was in a hostage situation, I seriously doubt that I would have any feelings for them (if it was a randomer). I would want to rip them a new asshole. I've read up on things like this many times, but i still can't understand how this can happen to people. There has been people who have even gone to court and defended their kidnappers. I mean wtf

I suppose some retards would though. If they've kidnapped you then they're probably the only person you're going to have any contact with for a while, you're either going to really hate them, which any normal person would, or may grow fond of them or take sympathy on them. Dno, they could have done it because they were lonley or something so some cunt's gonna stick up for them,  they're keeping you alive by feeding you and stuff too so some people would. Idiots though.

I think if Maddys alive because she was so young when she was taken she probably really likes the people who took her and might think that they're her parents now or whatever

I think it would happen to me

If someone done something bad/i was in an abusive relationship/held hostage etc i would rather do whatever i can to make it stop so im safe, revenge or being nasty to them in return wouldn't really be on my mind i dunno how to explain what i mean... i would be sympathetic and empathetic but mainly as  defence mechanism
