Newcastle and England fly-half Jonny Wilkinson faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after dislocating his knee.

The 29-year-old suffered the injury against Gloucester on Tuesday in only his fourth game since returning from six months out after shoulder surgery.

Wilkinson was carried off midway through the first half at Kingsholm.

"He has enormous strength of character and I am sure he will come back stronger," said Newcastle's director of rugby Steve Bates.

England begin their autumn Test programme at Twickenham in less than six weeks and Wilkinson is now a major doubt.

Are you serious - the dude is one of the best fly halfs in the world.

He certainly does kick well, most probably the best in the world, or he was.

In the world cup final he was miles out with his kicking; that's one of the reasons England lost.

However, kicking is not the only part of his game, he has great vision - with little pop passes that open up teams; he's a playmaker and there aren't many in the world who are better than him....... of course they aren't constantly on the sick so bah lol

he was possibly the best in his early to mid 20s, but in my opinion, a fully fit Wilkinson or Dan Carter, ill take Carter everytime

Yeah, problem with England is that all the world cup winners are getting too old...

I agree about Wilkinson in his early to mid 20's, he's had too many injuries now. poor guy is gonna end up crippled if he keeps going

its not about being bitter, its jsut a case that i dont like the man, i like quite a few English players as their genuinely talented and such, i just dont like Wilko

for instance, Dan Hipkiss, vastly, vastly underrated, excellent player for Tigers, but has struggled to make it into the English starting lineup, hopefully Johnson will see this and pick his team on form rather than on previous reputations and picking players who are out of form
